Developing the Faith of a Widow

God is our source of supply

“For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect man, yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice, so she doesn’t wear me out by her persistent coming.’” Luk.18:4-5 (HCSB).

God’s Sovereignty

Good morning friends. I trust you are still strong in the power of His might.

Today, I want to share about the faith of widows. The widows that we are focusing on are the ones in the bible, whom their husbands had no life insurance, and did not leave them with any form of wealth.

When we read in the bible, most widows were not well taken care of by society, so after the husband had passed on, they had no means of sustaining their homes. They relied on God for sustenance.

We also observe that when God wanted to demonstrate His sovereignty, He used the widows to perform great miracles.

There are three great miracles; God performed through widows in the old testament. We read about these miracles in the books of 1Kings17:7-16 and 2Kings 4:1-7, and Ruth.

We read in 1 Kings 17:7-16, that there was a severe famine in the land, and God sent prophet Elijah to live with the widow till the famine ended. When he found the widow, she was ready to cook her last meal for her and her son and die.

She had no idea that God had already appointed her for a great miracle. So prophet Elijah gave her the instruction to make a cake for him; In the beginning, the woman was not willingly, nevertheless at God’s command, she did what Elijah told her to do, and God performed a great miracle from her act obedience.

They had an abundant provision that sustained them throughout the season of famine.

A Widow and Her God

Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day, 1 Tim5:5 (NKJV)

We learn from 2 Kings 4:1-7; That this widow was in so much debt, her husband did not leave an inheritance for his family. When debtors wanted to take this woman and her son, she did not look to neighbors and friends for a solution but looked unto God. She understood that her help came from the Lord; hence she ran to prophet Elisha and asked for divine intervention; as a result, God performed another great miracle that demonstrated the sovereignty of God.

As we read from the abovementioned scripture, there is nothing that can stand between a widow and her God, because God is all that she has. In Luke 18: 1-8, The Lord Jesus taught us on this subject of developing the faith of a widow.

In His narration, we can observe how the widow exercised the power of persistence in her request until she got what she wanted.

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said.  And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?  I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Luk.18:1-8.

She kept on pestering the judge, up until it became clear that she was going to weigh him down, and in the end, that judge performed her request. The Lord Jesus praised the act of that judge as we make observations in the abovementioned scripture.

The Lord Jesus is encouraging us today to continue to flood the heavens with our prayers, day, and night and not give up, and He would speedily answer us. Unlike the unjust judge who took a while before responding to the widow’s request.

God is our source of supply

We can then conclude by saying developing faith of a widow; comes with an understanding that God is our supply, the word of God is our source of supply, the blessings of Abraham is our source of supply, Christ Jesus is our source of supply.

We do not look to men for provision, but God. Nothing can stand between us, and our God. We know that He is dependable, reliable, trustworthy, and faithful, and He will never let us down.

In the past time, I had several occasions whereby I truly trusted different people to pull through for me, and they let me down.

I made a conscious decision, and I took my eyes from people and looked to God for everything. I found Him to be a true, reliable Father, who always comes through no matter what.

I learned that God uses even strangers to meet our needs. Most of the time, we look to people we know and familiar with for help and limit God. But if we decide that God is our source of supply, God manifests Himself in unlimited ways, that always supersede our limited Ways!

Maybe you have recently encountered disappointment through people you truly trusted and who gave their word that they will pull through for you, but in the end, they still let you down. I would say, forgive them, they are only humans at the end of the day.

May I encourage you to train yourself and develop a faith that real looks unto God for everything, even for petty issues.

Thank you so much for reading, may God richly bless you.
