Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer.  From the end of the earth, I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.  I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
. Psalm 61:1-2 NKJV.

A Prayer For Help And Protection

Greetings, Dear Friends! I trust you are in good spirits this day, the 1st of December 2020. Indeed, this has been the most turbulent year. God has kept us through the season we never anticipated. This year has been full of uncertainty, and the people’s lives were real displaced, and most of the people are still trying to rebuild from rock bottom.

As we enter this last month of the year, some are not looking forward to this season because they have encountered so much loss, and some don’t even see how they will get through this season. They feel overwhelmed and faint with the trials they have gone through. They don’t have any hope for the future. They feel helpless and worn out.

As believers, we have a tendency to put on masks and hide how we actually feel, and sometimes we tend to put on these masks even in the presence of God. Some are pretending to be alright even as they are reading this article. We think we are not demonstrating giant faith if we express how we truly feel; hence, we keep losing battles to the enemy because we fail to be honest and truthfully with ourselves before we can be truthful with anyone else. I have witnessed believers judging other believers because they expressed that they were not doing well and labeled them as lacking faith.

Hear me, O God, when I cry; listen to my prayer.  You are the One I will call when pushed to the edge, when my heart is faint. Shoulder me to the rock above me.  For You are my protection, an impenetrable fortress from my enemies. Let me live in Your sanctuary forever; let me find safety in the shadow of Your wings. Psalm 61:1-4

Today I want to encourage you to learn from King David, who at some point in his life felt very overwhelmed with the storms of life, yet He knew where he would receive help, as per the above-mentioned scripture. He was not afraid to express his fears and share his agony with God. As he was running from his son Absolom, he did not hide his pain from those close and around him, and he kept crying out to God. He cried out to God for help and protection because he understood that his son wanted to kill him. Even when he was running away from King Saul, He focused his eyes on God. He cried out for mercy and presented all the troubles he had before God, as we read from the scripture below.

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.  I will cry out to God Most High, To God who performs all things for me.  He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Psalm 57:1 NKJV.

Today I want to tell you that it is okay to cry in the presence of God; even your tears can be a prayer to God when you don’t know how to express your feelings in His presence. Break out and cry out to Him; if you have to cry, allow the comfort of the Holy Spirit to fill your spirit, soul, and body. God is All-knowing, Omnipresent; He is the only One who knows how He will get you out of these calamities. You need to be honest with Him, tell Him your deepest fears and anxieties, and let Him give you rest as He promised in Matthew 28:20.

It is not over until Christ Jesus, our Lord, and Savior says it’s over. God will still show up and show out in your life, even on the eleventh hour. Come as you are and allow Him to lead you to a rock of protection that is higher than any situation. He shall send help from heaven and save you as He promised in the above-mentioned scriptures. Run into His presence; what He has done for others He will also do for you. You shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

I hope you found encouragement to push through till the end of this year and not lose hope. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read through; I genuinely appreciate you and many blessings to you. God really loves you; He is with you and for you.

    Such an encouraging post! There are so many who are feeling downhearted and are struggling with all sorts of things. I pray that God guides them to your wonderful post, Zama-Zoe. It’s cruel for others to tell people they’re lacking in faith when they’re overwhelmed with despair. I’ve been told that very same thing in the past and it just beats you down even further. People need to be uplifted – not criticised and judged.
    I know what you mean about holding back on our feelings. I used to feel so guilty for suffering from depression. I accept now that it’s a part of me and that God loves me through it, and I take it to Him in prayer whenever I need to.
    Thank you for writing this! xx

      Greetings, my dear friend. I have been trying to post a comment on your site, but there is no block; I am truly blessed with the work you have done on your site, and I wanted to tell you, but I could not. Thank you so much for these kind words of wisdom and affirmation. More than anything, we need to be there for one another and be patient with one another; if others are struggling, we need to uplift them in prayer until they are strong enough to stand on their own. You are absolutely right; sometimes we don’t feel comfortable bringing all our burdens to God; but He is willing to help us, as He was willing to heal the blind, the lame, and the lepers, He is still willing to meet us at the point of our needs. Thank you so much for contributing valuable insight to this site; I genuinely appreciate you. Many blessings to you.

    The body of believers are told to bear each others burdens. When we really love God, we have the compassion of Christ. God created us with the ability to cry because He knew that we would become overwhelmed. Many times we look for comfort and are told, I will pray for you. But we should ask while talking to the individual, can I pray with you now? Most of the time, I do not have someone to pray with me, but I always pray a short but effective prayer while crying, Please, God, I need your help. God does heal the brokenhearted. Thank you God for giving us the ability to cry. Amen. Beautiful heartfelt message. Keep fulfilling your Divine purpose Sister Zama-Zoe.

      Greetings, my dear friend; thank you so much for the kind words of wisdom; I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to read and contributing such a powerful insight to this site; I value your input.

      Indeed we are to bear one another burdens; we are to take advantage of the community that Christ has given us as His church. I have also trained myself to pray immediately for anyone who needs prayer because if we leave it for later, there is a possibility that I might forget it after I have already committed to stand in prayer with them. I have read another post where the author was also affirming us as believers that ” Yahweh hears the cries of His children,” so we must never be afraid to cry out to Him.

      Thank you so much for stopping by, and I have been blessed with the work that Christ is doing on your site; I have also looked for opportunities to post a comment on your site and did not find the comment block. May God richly blesses you as you continue to serve Him in spirit and truth.

    Another one I like is Psalm 62:8 where we are told to pour out our heart to our God. He is our refuge.

      Greetings, my dear friend; I am sorry I took long to respond; I have not been online for the past two weeks; I had an emergency requiring my attention. Thank you so much for stopping by; I genuinely appreciate you. Psalm 62 is also amongst my favorite prayer psalm, and I love that part where we are told to our out our hearts to Him; sometimes it’s easy to pour out your heart to God than man. Thank you so much for reading through, and many blessings to you.

    Great post! Faith is not denying the obvious, but trusting in God to take care of us in our most downcast moment. Like you beautifully put it, we don’t need to put on a mask before God or one another. That’s hypocrisy! True faith is in confessing our faults one to another and praying for one another that we may be healed. God bless you for this great post!

Yes, it’s true; true faith is all about being honest with one another and with God. Being accepted for who you are with all your mess is what matters in our Christian, for Christ tells us to come as we are, and we must also receive others at their level. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading through, and contributing to this post; I genuinely appreciate you. Many blessings to you.
